CAPOLYMPICS

On a Saturday in June, young people from our Capuchin parishes on Guam came together at Ipao Beach in Tumon for a day of games, activities and fellowship called CapOlympics - Capuchin Olympics!

Capuchin Brother Ryan Charfauros (the tall one in blue shorts in the center) was there all day to lend a hand in supervising the fun.

Part of the fun was this "Blind Taste Test!"  Looks like baby food or custard to me!

Another eating contest!

The day was spearheaded by Mangilao's Youth Ministry program.  Good job everyone!

NOVICES ON RETREAT

Brother Gavin Diego (back row, 3rd from right) and his fellow novices just completed their retreat in preparation for their first profession of vows which will take place in July.

LIFE IN KANSAS

Our postulants, Will Paulino and Jason Chargualaf, are having quite an experience in Kansas.  Here they stand, with two classmates, in a wheat field, ready for the harvest.

Riding a harvester!

Jason ministers at a senior care residence called Via Christi.

Chamorros can be found in every state of the Union, including Kansas, where Jason has relatives.

William is pictured here at a church in Kansas where he and some classmates went for Sunday Mass.

The excitement builds!  The name tags are ready!

YOUTH FRANCISCANS START A NEW COMMUNITY

The Secular Franciscans on Guam have begun a new group for people ages 14 to 30 who may be interested in Franciscan spirituality.  Twenty-five young people gathered for a full day of prayer, talks and reflections on the Franciscan way of life.

The Youth Franciscans, or Youfra, elected their own leadership and will meet regularly.  Rico Chaco is Fraternal Animator.  Contact Rico for more information at rico.chaco@hotmail.com

Explore the spirit and lifestyle of Saint Francis!  It is meant for everyone - young or old; single or married; ordained or lay person!

A NEW ASSIGNMENT

After returning from some months in Hawaii, Father Felixberto Leon Guerrero, OFM Cap has been officially appointed pastor of San Miguel parish in Talofofo, effective June 17.

A SOUVENIR FROM A FIRST MASS

Sister Teresa Arias, a Mercedarian missionary from Spain, painted this portrait of Fr Paulo Kosaka, OFM Cap, blessing people after his first Mass many years ago back in the 1980s.  The sisters recently gave this painting to the Friary as a memento of that special occasion.

WELCOME FATHER ROGER

Father Roger Calaor, a Capuchin from the Philippines, is spending a few weeks on Guam on a fraternal visit with the friars here.  Welcome and enjoy your visit!

MINISTRY IN THE PHILIPPINES

Father Eric was invited to offer Mass at Santo Domingo de la Naval Church in Quezon City (Manila area) in the Philippines.  The Church is famous for its shrine to Our Lady of the Rosary of La Naval, an image venerated for her intercession assisting the Spanish and Filipino forces against Dutch invasion in 1646.

He also directed Rev. Deacon Richard Kidd on his canonical retreat in preparation for his ordination to the priesthood this coming July.

POSTULANTS IN KANSAS

Our postulants from Guam, William Paulino (standing on far left) and Jason Chargualaf (kneeling in the front row), are doing well in Kansas, where all the postulants gather in the summer to prepare for the novitiate which begins in July at our friary in Santa Ynez in California.
